At Phenomenex we understand the importance of giving back. We send teams to rebuild after disasters, run and cycle thousands of kilometers to raise money for charity, care for injured wildlife, and so much more. Phenomenex provides a supportive environment for charity by scheduling philanthropic activities during work hours, matching funds raised, and donating resources and facilities for local charity events. Humanity
Phenomenex UK team members race a 5K/10K benefiting Helen’s Trust. This non-profit organization helps those suffering from cancer and incurable diseases to remain in their own homes while receiving care.
“Action Contre La Faim” or Action Against Hunger, is just one of many of the races Phenomenex participates in to raise money for charity. During the “Action Contre La Faim,” Phenomenex France donated 15€ for every kilometer ran. After 96 kilometers Phenomenex donated 1440€ to help fight global hunger.
Phenomenex was presented with the American Red Cross Platinum Special Recognition Award. The honor, the Red Cross’ highest award, recognizes organizations for long-standing support of the Red Cross and year-over-year excellence in donation levels.
We have continuously increased the number of employee donations at our annual drives and look forward to continuing our partnership with the Red Cross.
The CEO of Phenomenex, along with 11 other Phenomenex employees, fly to Belize for nine days to build a kitchen and dining room for a school in Selena, Belize. In addition to the new addition to the school, volunteers also collected over 700 pounds of clothing, books, and school supplies for the children.
Our Phenomenex staff has always been active in charitable efforts. Bone marrow drives to save the life of a colleague stricken with leukemia and fund-raising for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) are just a few of the ways Phenomenex has contributed to serving those in need.
Phenomenex New Zealand has maintained an active charity program, making regular contributions to a range of causes. Their support efforts include ongoing donations and support for young children, both in New Zealand and overseas in addition to raising funds for a Kiwi Search and Rescue organization.
Phenomenex has worked with the local agency dating back to 2004, in which we held our 1st Annual Toy Drive. Each year Phenomenex sets up donation boxes around the campus to “Adopt a Family” program. Each year our employees fill the boxes and delivered to the families throughout the South Bay.
Cheer for Children was founded in 1985 as an all-volunteer organization to help children in the South Bay.
Phenomenex has developed extremely close bonds with Covenant House over the years holding fund-raising bake-sales, breakfasts, lunches and preparing a crawl-fish boil at the New Orleans site to benefit the children and staff members of Covenant House. Ties were made after Hurricane Katrina touched down on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. Known to be the most destructive natural disaster in U.S. history, hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed the city of New Orleans. One group devastated by Hurricane Katrina was Covenant House New Orleans, a center providing shelter and services to homeless, runaway and at-risk youth ages 16 to 21. Phenomenex sent a group of employees to Covenant House New Orleans to help clean, repair and rebuild the damaged facilities. On October 31, 2005, Covenant House once again opened their doors to the runaway / homeless children of New Orleans.
Over £2,000,000/$3,167,800 Raised for The Outward Bound Trust
Fasha Mahjoor, President and CEO of Phenomenex, descended down 87 floors of The Shard, Europe’s tallest building alongside Prince Andrew and a small group of philanthropists. The group successfully raised over £2,000,000/$3,167,800for the educational charity, The Outward Bound Trust, enabling underprivileged youth to participate in life changing outdoor programs.
Over 300,000 Meals Made for Starving Children in Haiti, North Korea and the Philippines
Through a continued partnership with Minnesota-based Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), Phenomenex volunteers make meals to feed starving children in the developing world. Phenomenex has now made over 300,000 life-saving meals that have been sent to children in countries including North Korea, Haiti, and the Philippines, feeding over 820 children for an entire year. Phenomenex hosts these events on-site and sponsors 100% of the event costs.

Phenomenex partners with local high schools in the South Bay area to provide students interactive learning sessions about careers and opportunities in the scientific arena. During the Job Shadow Day, students are divided into groups and sent to “shadow “ Phenomenex professionals in R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Production departments and to experience the wide range of opportunities to those who want to pursue a career in the scientific field.
After the disastrous earthquake in Japan , Phenomenex employees around the world organized various fund-raising luncheons for the victims. With employee participation and a 100 % matched donation, Phenomenex was able to donate over $4,000 to help the victims of the earthquake.
Kiva is a non-profit group that focuses on micro-loans for deserving of funding entrepreneurs around the world. Each month a different employee at Phenomenex Australia, volunteers his or her time to prepare a charity lunch for the office. The proceeds from the lunch are donated to different entrepreneurs in the Kiva program. So far, the Phenomenex team has raised enough funds to support 17 different people and their companies around the world. Our ultimate goal is to support at least one group in every country where Kiva is involved.
On the 6th of April, a terrible earthquake destroyed part of one most beautiful cities in Italy: L'Aquila.
The famous Italian author Ignazio Silone once wrote: "In an earthquake, everyone dies: rich and poor, educated and illiterate, authorities and people. An earthquake accomplishes what words and laws promise and never achieve: the equality of all."
It’s a terrible truth—in fact, most of us that Monday morning were shocked because many people were suffering in that area. Some of our customers were hit by the earthquake, some of them lost their houses and their family, some their work. We asked ourselves how we could help them and the immediate answer was to make a donation. We decided to dedicate half of the bonus earned during our spring promotion to help the victims. The company decided to match the amount and also the managers added some money to the donation. At the end the sum we donated was 3500 EUR (approx 4500 USD).

Phenomenex has become increasingly aware of the need for continuous food drives and held our 1st Annual Food Drive in 2006. Employees saw the need to get more involved with the organization after our 1st Food Drive, which led to several visits throughout each year to sort and pack donated food at the LA Food Bank.
Doing Our Part to Fight Men’s Cancer During the Month of “Movember”
During the month of November, all 15 Phenomenex companies worldwide came together to support Movember, a global initiative to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Donning moustaches (or Mo’s) with pride, both Phenomenex men and women shared the important message with their family, friends, and the community with great passion, and as a result raised funds that were 100% matched by Phenomenex to donate to cancer research.
The PhenomeKnights is internal organization created by employees of Phenomenex. The group’s mission is to raise awareness of local charities by promoting a healthy lifestyle. Each week the group sponsors lunchtime jogs neighboring the Phenomenex campus. Not only does this create a healthier lifestyle but it builds bonds between our different departments. In addition, this group trains for quarterly 5K, 10K and triathlons throughout the year that will benefit a charity of choice. So far, the group (including our offices overseas) has raised $10,000.00 donated to both Children’s Pediatrics Cancer and Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
On May 03, 2009, a team of 73 Phenomenex USA staff plus friends and family came together to fight pediatric cancer. Team Phenomenex was one of the largest corporate participants in the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation’s “Reach for the Cure” event, held in Irvine, California.
Team Phenomenex participated in every way, with members working their way through the Half-Marathon, 10K/5K Run/Walk and 1K Kids’ Fun Walk alongside more than 5,000 other runners and walkers. With team members as young as nine months old, this truly was a Phenomenex Family event. Distance runners ran, speedsters sped, friends enjoyed a leisurely stroll, and parents pushed strollers along, with each step in the race moving us closer toward curing pediatric cancer.
“As part of our mission to promote the well-being of humanity and give back to our community, we were proud to participate in this event to raise awareness and funds to fight pediatric cancer,” said Bryan Lombardi, Training Manager at Phenomenex.

Phenomenex supports this organization by volunteering to improve the homes and lives of low income homeowners by providing annual donations and providing free repair services such as painting, carpentering, and maintenance and gardening services. Phenomenex and Rebuilding Together believe in a safe and healthy home for every person.
Although originated in the UK, Red Nose Day has spread throughout all Phenomenex offices around the world. Everyone dresses up in costumes and red noses while raising funds for assisting disadvantaged people with education health and housing.
Phenomenex partners with Tri County Wildlife Care an organization that raises baby orphans and rehabs injured squirrels and skunks to be released into the wild. In addition to rescuing and rehabilitating injured squirrels and skunks, this organization also educates people at hospitals and schools on animal wild life.

The R&D 100 award, sponsored by R&D Magazine, recognizes the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year, and is widely regarded among the broad scientific community as a mark of excellence in technological innovation.
American Red Cross Platinum Special Recognition Award
Early in 2009, Phenomenex was presented with the American Red Cross Platinum Special Recognition Award, recognizing the company as a leader among the hundreds of companies that work with the Southern California Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The honor, the Red Cross’ highest award, recognizes organizations for long-standing support of the Red Cross and year-over-year excellence in blood donation levels. In 2007, Phenomenex increased the number of employee donations by 91%. In addition to the semi-annual drives, Phenomenex hosted two emergency blood drives during periods of low blood supply, at the request of the President of the Southern California Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Commitment Award
Phenomenex Donates $36,599.00 to the American Red Cross for Superstorm Sandy Relief Efforts, Honored with an Award for Commitment
To show their support for those affected by the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, Phenomenex donated a percentage of its November and December sales directly to the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts. Subsequently, on February 21, 2013, Phenomenex was presented with an award from the American Red Cross for their commitment. The award bore the following inscription, “With deep appreciation to Phenomenex. Thank you for your generous gift to support disaster relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. Your contribution helped to provide shelter, food, emotional support and relief supplies to families and communities in need – sending a message of comfort and hope. We are deeply grateful for your compassion and your generosity.” Phenomenex supports the Red Cross globally thru blood donations, emergency relief, and hands-on volunteerism.
International Spirit at Work Award
Phenomenex was honored to receive the International Spirit at Work Award. According to Cindy Wigglesworth, Selection Committee Chairperson of the International Spirit at Work Award, "The award honors the recipients for their spiritual policies, programs or practices that explicitly nurture spirituality in their organizations. Phenomenex and Toyota receive LAVA’s Conscious Capitalism Award
The Los Angeles Venture Association (known as LAVA) and Patricia Aburdene, author of Megatrends 2010, recognized Toyota and Phenomenex Inc., a global market leader for innovative chromatography products, as recipients of their "Conscious Capitalism Award" at a ceremony held in Los Angeles on Thursday, 22 September.
In Megatrends and Megatrends 2000, both number one best sellers, authors John Naisbett and Patricia Aburdene predicted the shift from an industrial to an informational economy. In Megatrends 2010: The Rise of Conscious Capitalism, Patricia Aburdene reveals "Seven New Trends That Will Transform How You Work, Live, and Invest," and provides data and examples to support her conclusions that corporate responsibility is actually good business and that new-economy and old-guard companies who practice social, spiritual and environmental values will significantly outperform conventional companies. The spirit, ingenuity and integrity of the people in such organizations will drive performance, accelerate innovation and enhance job satisfaction

Phenomenex’s Kinetex® core-shell HPLC Columns have received the SelectScience Scientists’ Choice Award, the result of an independent poll. More than 20,000 scientists from the SelectScience online community were invited to nominate and vote on new products introduced last year. The award for Best New Separations Product of 2009 was presented at Pittcon 2010 in Orlando.
Kerry Parker, editor for SelectScience, commented, “The Scientists’ Choice Awards provide a unique opportunity for the online laboratory community to voice their opinion and provide feedback to manufacturers. The award highlights new products that have made a real impact in the laboratory this year.”

The Wall Street Journal Exceptional Workplace
